Chirping Cellos

Hi! I’m Zaria! I’m busking with my cello for a dream holiday to Mexico to find axolotls. Did you know axolotls are super popular as domestic pets, but unfortunately, in the wild they are an endangered species.

Axolotls are only found naturally in two lakes in Mexico: Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco, which was drained due to urban development and flood control measures. Lake Xochimilco still exists but is barely a lake; more like canals. It is in these canals, scientists found two wild axolotls, saving the sweet animal from extinction but showing how dangerously endangered they are.

I am saving up for a dream holiday to Mexico (with my dad) to search for axolotls and meet with scientists and conservationists who are working to save wild axolotls. I want to see the natural habitat to learn all about what we can do to save the environment and help these little animals thrive once more.

It’s a long way from Sydney to Mexico City, but I am determined to save the money and meet lots of great people along the way. You can follow my journey on Instagram through @ChirpingCellos and also on Facebook. You can also make an online donation through PayPal here.

Thanks!
